Grilling continues; Black Bean Jalapeño Burger Recipe

20130609-173204.jpg

Wow! I have to share this recipe I created.
It really turned out better than any black bean burger I have ever tasted.

The deal on 99% of the recipes you search on the web use rice or quinoa.
Which does not bother me. I was making for my daughter and she is not a very big fan of either. Well in a burger to clarify.
With that let me share
Ingredients
This made 4 Burgers
15 ounces of organic black beans
If you use dried beans – best to soak over night & drain
1 shallot
2t sea salt
1-2 fresh jalapeños -use two if you like the heat
3 raw garlic cloves
1-2 T olive oil
1 Egg
1/3-1/2 cup homemade bread crumbs
With is very simple – toast a 2 slices of Dave’s Killer bread. You want to make sure it is a little overdone, not burnt.

Handful or more of fresh cilantro

Method
In a sauté pan add a T of olive oil on medium heat
Dice jalapeño, garlic & shallots
Sauté 2-3 minutes stirring
Chop fresh cilantro and set aside
Make sure bread is cooled- with my dry Vitamix I place chunks in and mix until it turns into flour
Another way is to put into a plastic bag- hammer it with meat pounder until as fine as you can get it.
In a blender or you could hand mash the black beans – All but 1/2 cup

In medium size bowl Beat egg, add all black beans, sauté mix cilantro and then sea salt & bread crumbs
-hand mix with wooden spoon until all combined

Make your patties
Refrigerate at least 45 min or longer

Preheat grill medium to high
You will cook on med-high for 3-4 minutes each side
Add cheese slices that last minute of grilling
We used cheddar
We served on homemade buns recipe is on previous post: grass fed burgers & homemade hamburger buns

Toppings
Sliced Avocado
Tomatoes
Lettuce
And anything that sounds delicious
We did not add any sauces as it had so much flavor already

Bon Appétit
