Organic Turkey Chili with a kick

Ingredients:
3T olive oil
1T sea salt
1T Red Pepper Flakes
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp turmeric
1 yellow onion chopped
3 1/2 cups of tomato puree I use homemade, but a good one is San Marzano peeled tomatoes (product of Italy) and just puree the entire can. Trader Joes carries this brand
2-3 jalapeños roasted & diced (more for spicier chili)
4 Cups of homemade broth, veggie or chicken broth.
1 green bell pepper chopped finely
2 red pepper chopped finely
1 1/2-2 lbs organic ground turkey cooked & drain any oil
4 cups organic black beans
2 cups organic red beans
1 cup organic kidney beans or organic northern white- optional
Large handful of both fresh cilantro & parsley – chopped to your liking. Save some cilantro for garnish

METHOD:
In a medium saucepan on medium to high heat add olive oil and onions
Sauté 5-6 minutes
Add salt and continue another 5-6 minutes
Once caramelized (browning) add all the dry spices and sauté another minute or two.

Add broth and tomato puree, peppers, jalapeños and turkey and bring to a low boil and turn down to a simmer
Add beans
Simmer for 20-30 minutes-last 5 minutes add fresh cilantro and parsley
The broth will thicken. If needed you can add organic corn starch if needed.
Optional ingredients:
fresh zucchini & carrots chopped and add last 15 minutes of cooking. I love this in the spring & summer.

Optional Toppings:
Crème fraîche, avocado, crème fraiche avocado mixed, fresh cilantro, salsa

Note;
You can roast your jalapeños over open gas if you have that kind of cook top- if not you can do this in your oven
Broil low and keep an eye on them until the skin is charring – once cooled peel that away and dice.IMG_7303
