A piece of my heart has been touched by the Parisian lifestyle. Each visit back to this beautiful country has me craving more of its culture.
We have traveled the South of France years ago; Monaco, Cannes & St Tropez. The French Riveria!
My husband and I could not believe the beauty we missed not going to Nice. We had decided to rent an apartment in old town. It was located directly above the old town street market and across the street from the Opera House.
Our favorite french meal was a must when we arrived; croque monsieur. It was a warm afternoon so a panaché was the perfect cocktail of choice.
The daily outdoor street market was a highlight. I loved being able to walk through daily. The feeling, aromas and the local artist was amazing colorful sights to to capture.
The most scrumptious produce and vibrant colors in every step we took. I was really happy to find some seeds to purchase and bring them home. My husband that is not a veggie lover actually loved the tomatoes.
The city’s original site, the Castle Hill once boasted a reputedly impregnable citadel that was entirely dismantled by the soldiers of the French King Louis XIV in 1706.
Truly a maze of greenery that has become popular for its cool undergrowth and surprising waterfall. a nature lovers dream for strolling and offers the most wonderful views.
A L’Olivier was directly below our apartment. They offer private tastings along with walk-ins. This is a great way to learn the importance of pairing and help enhance recipes and daily food you are preparing.
Hand-rolled Gnocchi with fresh arugula salad, fresh local sausage. Homemade Brioche Bun cheeseburger with roasted potatoes. Enjoying a scrumptious meal in the heart of old town. The ambience is the most delightful; cobblestone streets, locals strolling by, warm spring afternoon and the aromas that will never leave you.
Crepe crawl was a must! Being a foodie this was something top on my list. I have had some of the best crepes I have ever tasted in France. As you can see there are completely different than American Crepes. Not stuffed with anything and everything. Not needed, they stand alone and the most tastiest treat.
I’m always picking up culinary tips to improve my skills.
Le Comptoir De Mathilde was my absolute favorite store in old town. The presentation of every display was perfection. Details to me are what takes it to the next level. Making the experience memorable and a very special feeling.
I bought all my girls fresh herbs de provence here. It is brought in weekly and so fresh. Exploding with the best mix of aromas.
You really can’t go wrong with most shops in old town. As you explore walking down cobblestone streets, almost only pedastrian (a few mopeds and delivery trucks) you will love each turn and will enjoy all it has to offer.
Gelato in cappuccino’s daily were part of taking in the lifestyle. I was thrilled to for the first time try Lavender Gelato.
The french are known for the best bakeries in the world. They have never let us down. This was the best Chausson aux Pommes I have ever tasted.
Surrounded by orange goodness. Orange trees were in bloom and had my eyes dancing. The beautiful citrus against the pastel palette buildings added a gorgeous contrast.
This shoe store and handbag was owned by this gentleman and he hand makes everything. They were out of my daughters size and so he offered to make a pair. We were very thankful we strolled by here the first day so we could give him a few days to make them.
He also braided her a leather bracelet as a gift. True kindness and giving people are everywhere.
Nice overall has a niche for everyone. Big city in Nice, Old Town for charming shops authentic architecture, narrow honeycombed streets and culinary lovers dream on having a food crawl. The beach is steps away and the brilliant blue water has the most amazing ombre hues. A beach and sun lovers dream.
I hope to visit this beautiful place again one day. Until then the memories created and the moments that I hold tight are truly so wonderful and I remember them like it was yesterday.
Thank you Nice and everything you added to our lives.
